Christchurch Sales 2024 – Snippets

Leading purchasers:  Stonewall Stud – 14 yearlings for a total of $858,500. Next highest – Peter Lagan Bloodstock – 5 yearlings for $575,000.

Last years sale – Stonewall Stud (22) $1,632,000 and Peter Lagan Bloodstock (6) $855,000.

Note: At the Auckland sale last year Stonewall Stud bought 7 yearlings outlying $780,000. They purchased 6 at this year’s sale – $547,500.

Top Vendor: Laura Smith – offered 20 yearlings and sold 19 for $1,307,500. Within the Smith draft Taffy brand sold 11 yearlings for $1,129,000.

Studholme Bloodstock were second most successful vendor offering 16 and selling 11 for $833,500. Last year they sold 14 lots for $668,000.

Average price across the two days: $45,204. Clearance rate 68% compared to 69% last year.

Leading vendor by average:  Price Bloodstock – offered 5 yearlings, all sold for an average of $90,500. Included in their draft was the highest selling colt on Day One, War Party ($240,000).

Southern Bred Southern Reared (SBSR):  of 48 yearlings offered, 11 passed in. Aggregate for stock sold was $1,833,000 for an average price of $49,540.

In 2023 SBSR presented 67 yearlings, 6 were passed in and 61 sold for $1,969,000 for an average price of $32,278.
