WASHINGTON, PA, Feb. 23, 2024 — Hammered down to 2-5, Risenshine Seaside (Downbytheseaside-Vivid Shine) made it look that easy, dominating Friday’s (Feb. 23) $21,200 Open Handicap harness racing pace at Hollywood Casino at The Meadows with a facile front-end victory.
It was only his second start of the year, but the 5-year-old gelding flashed mid-season form, drawing off to score for Ronnie Wrenn, Jr. in 1:51.1. The pocket sitting Sandbetweenmytoes was second, beaten 2 lengths, with Duval Street third.
RISENSHINE SEASIDE REPLAY
The win sent Risenshineseaside soaring over $300,000 in career earnings for trainer Michael Burke and owners Burke Racing Stable, Weaver Bruscemi LLC and Phillip Collura.
Wrenn and Burke also captured Friday’s co-feature, the $21,200 Open Handicap Trot, when Warrawee Yang (Trixton-Endless Flirt) gobbled up the leader, 3-5 favorite Emerald’s Legacy, with a powerful first-over move and rolled home in 1:54, 4 lengths better than Killer Instinct. Windsong Patriot completed the ticket.
As his stablemate, the 4-year-old achieved an earnings milestone, vaulting over $100,000 for owners Burge Racing Stable and Weaver Bruscemi.
WARRAWEE YANG REPLAY
It was a huge day for Wrenn and Burke, who finished the 13-race card with six wins and five wins, respectively. Dave Palone checked in with a three-bagger.
