At the Wyndham Harness Racing Club meeting at Cromwell today, Pinseeker (Downbytheseaside) proved he’s a quality racehorse who’s going places.
Trainer Jonny Cox had the gelding positioned three back on the outside and the horse let down nicely in the straight, to win by two and a quarter lengths from Still Rockin.
“He still had a little bit in reserve. He showed a good turn of foot at the top of the straight when he got away from a few speedy horses and they had to chase after that, so it worked out quite well,” Cox said.
It was the gelding’s third win in just four starts.
Bred by Woodlands Stud, Pinseeker was purchased at the Gavelhouse Covid Sale for $4,000 and is owned by Iain Wilson, Peter Brinsdon, Jason Wood, Bernie McKone, Phil Stephens, Logan Boersma and Gary May.
“He didn’t break in so well and took a wee bit to get going. John Morrison did a lot of work with him early on and a big thanks to him. Since he’s got going he’s been very easy to train. We’ve always liked him and he’s stepped up which he needs to do.”
PINSEEKER REPLAY
Cox said the horse will target the Wyndham Cup on the 16th of March then the Winton Cup, before running in the Southern Country Cups Final on Diamonds Day at Invercargill in late April.
