Tonight’s (Feb. 27) harness racing action features a Pick 5 carryover of more than $3,000 at Northfield Park.
Any carryover is a good carryover, so let’s take a look at the sequence and put a ticket together.
Race 6: 1,4,6,7
(1) CHASING DRAGONS gets major post relief in this spot and he could get a golden trip and score at a decent price. He is one of four that I’ll use in this opening leg.
(4) BLUESBERRY BRANDI is worth a look here on driver change alone with Wrenn Jr. clicking at an incredible 41% strike rate so far at this track in 2024.
(6) MY FIRST TIME flashed speed with Merriman in the bike last week and tired late. He is better racing from off the pace and he has upset potential tonight.
(7) PLAYODDSPLAY was an upset winner in this class from this post last week, taking advantage of a slowing late pace. He is a contender but certainly no lock tonight.
Race 7: 1,2
(1) PIKETONFLASH gets out of the second tier after drawing post 9 two weeks in a row and he has a great chance to work out a perfect trip racing in the favorite’s pocket. He could add some value to this Pick 5.
(2) CUZBERTTOLDMESO is 3 for 3 in 2024 and he is the obvious horse to catch and beat here.
Race 8: 1
(1) BACK DOOR MAN takes a big class drop here and he draws inside. I see Merriman sending him right down the road and he will be my Pick 5 single.
Race 9: 1,3,9
(1) DOJEA ROCK is sure to set the pace starting from the rail and he is hard to leave out coming off a strong win here.
(3) BETTOR THAN SPRING drops and gets a positive driver change to Davis Jr. and I can see him landing in the choice’s pocket leaving the gate. He would be no surprise in this spot.
Race 10: 3,5
(3) HOBBS had no shot starting from the outside post when facing tougher at The Meadows in his last start. Missing a check there means he gets to drop to an easier class and he is the one to beat here.
(5) IT’S ALL ME comes off a strong win from this post where her trotted a big third 1/4 uncovered on the rim and won the battle. He is sharp, dangerous, and hard to leave out.
