Monticello, NY— Vel Mr Nice Guy (Straight Shooting, Joseph Chindano Jr) won the $6,500 harness racing Open pace at Monticello Raceway on Tuesday afternoon (Feb. 27).
Vel Mr Nice Guy took the early lead and quickly left his competition in the dust. Caviart Reagan (Michael Merton) followed in second and Trevor’s Ace (Fern Paquet Jr) was in third as they came to the first quarter mile in :27.3.
They were still in this position as they passed the half mile in :57.4. From the outside, Some Deal Hanover (Bruce Aldrich Jr) was first-over and looking to challenge Caviart Reagan for second. They reached the three-quarter mile in 1:26.4 with Vel Mr Nice Guy in front, Caviart Reagan far back in second, and Trevor’s Ace hanging on for third.
Vel Mr Nice Guy crossed the wire in 1:55, a length ahead of Caviart Reagan. Trevor’s Ace finished in third.

Vel Mr Nice Guy is a 6-year-old gelding owned by Jeff Savidge Racing LLC and trained by his driver, Joseph Chindano Jr. He paid $20.20 to win.
Gregory Merton got a driving double and Daniel Gill got a training double.
