Aussie hungry for more as Louie Vee greets winners circle

He was a two-year-old Breeders Crown Champion and was awarded the 2017 O’Brien Award for Two-Year-Old Pacing Colts/Geldings. at three won the Messenger and Cane Pace and banked $1,358,086 in prizemoney, now he is siring harness racing winners in both hemispheres. 

His name is Stay Hungry and at Gloucester Park, his son Louie Vee has had two starts for two wins and is a live chance in the $125,000 Sales Classic Final for two-year-old colts and geldings tomorrow night at Gloucester Park.

Bred by the late Harry Capararo, a stalwart in the racing industry and an astute breeder in West Australia who passed away in 2019. The gelding out of My West End Girl a Bettors Delight mare was purchased at last year’s APG’s Perth Sale by Henley Brook trainer Robbie Williams for $36,000. 

Stay Hungry had another winner with a filly named Sugar Rush for KerryAnn and Robbie Morris at Bathurst. Having her first start Sugar Rush rated 1.56.8 winning by 10.8 metres

Stay Hungry a son of Somebeachsomewhere has only 46 live foals from his first crop in Australia, 23 of those foals now two-year-old have been named a number have been to the trials.

Across the ditch Stay Hungry only has 5 foals in his first crop, 1 of those Beaudiene Hunter has been to the trials for New Zealand’s leading stable of Steve and Amanda Telfer was a $51,000 purchase at the 2023 Christchurch sale.

In North America Stay Hungry’s first two crops have won more than $6 million in stakes and he has sired 94 winners in 1:55, with his best son being Seven Colors who has won $706,370 to date, he won the 3YO colts & geldings Pennsylvania Sire Stakes in 1.48.1 and was beaten a neck in the Little Brown Jug Final.

Stay Hungry’s dam My Little Dragon (Dragons Lair) won over $2.3 million and was the winner of the 2005 Dan Patch Award and in 2008 won that award again this time for Older Mares.

My Little Dragon is also the dam of millionaire mare Treacherous Dragon.

With yearlings from his second crop entering the sales rings around Australia buyers are starting to take notice. In Adelaide, their boutique sale with only 14 yearlings 3 was by Stay Hungry, they were three of the top 4 lots sold and that was before Louie Vee’s stunning debut.

Aaron Bain Racing and Summit Bloodstock purchased a colt out of Crown Royale at the Adelaide Southern Cross sale for $32,000 the second top price at the sale, Bain had this to say about the colt “ I thought he was the pick of the sale and I like the Stay Hungry’s I think he is going to make it as sire, this colt looks like he will be up and running early.”

David Micallef sold a Stay Hungry colt out of Chalondra a half-sister to dual Inter-dominion winner Beautide for $42,000 at Sydney APG. Micallef said of the colt “he is a real eye-catcher.”

Stay Hungry also had a filly sell for $36,000 at the same sale.

This Sunday in the Perth APG Sale, Stay Hungry is represented 3 colts and a filly, Lot 425 is a colt out of the WA Diamond heat winnerBettorgrinanbarit this is her first foal.

Lot 449 another colt out of the Group 2 Dainty’s Daughter winner Gota Good Lookadda, and Lot 537 a colt out of Storm Cat a winning half-sister to Australian 2-year-old of his year The Storm Inside.

The only filly by Stay Hungry in the sale is out of the Southern Cross winner Tinted Pearl being offered by astute breeder Mike Howie’s Copper Lodge.

Stay Hungry a son of the immortal Somebeachsomewhere stands in Pennsylvania at Hanover Shoe Farms where he has served full books since arriving at the stud.

Here in Australia Stay Hungry is part of the Empire Stallions roster where he has been booked out in the last two seasons.
