After an impressive debut for second behind the smart Ukraine, (Captain Crunch) Music Mistress (Sweet Lou) went one better at Invercargill today, winning the two year old fillies feature.
From a fairly wide draw driver Tim Williams let the Steve and Amanda Telfer trained filly slide forward.
āIt wasnāt the plan to go out of the gate again. She felt good behind the gate and enthusiastic today because she was fresh. Once we got to the markers, she dropped the bit and didnāt have to break too many records afterwards,ā Williams said.
Although hot favourite Captainās Mistress closed late, Music Mistress won easily by two and three quarters of a length.
āSheās very natural, clean gaited, wears very little steering gear and is just the perfect build for a two year old. And she has the constitution to go with it.ā
Music Mistress is out of the Mach Three mare Rock Chic and was bred by Stonewall Stud. Her dam Rocknroll Lass (Rocknroll Hanover) won eight races for Steve Telfer and his previous training partner Chris Garlick.
āSheās (Music Mistress) a home bred. Steve, Gill (Stockman) and Stockie (Steve Stockman) put a bit of money into the game through the yearling sales so itās nice to see them get rewarded for one they bred.ā
