There are several outstanding lots being offered by individual vendors at the APG Perth Yearling Sale on March 3.
To help you get ready for the upcoming sale, we had one of our experts review the pedigrees of five of these up and coming youngsters and give you a break down on each.
Lot 438 is a filly by Interdominion winner Ultimate Sniper from outstanding broodmare Elite Angel, who has already produced three smart two-year-old winners.
This is the first crop of Ultimate Sniper, the son of Bettors Delight who was named NZ 3YO colt of the year after he won the NZ Derby and NZ Sires Stakes final.
He went on to make a clean sweep of the 2019 Interdominion series as a four-year-old – winning three heats and the final in a dominant display of strength and speed.
Elite Angel is the dam of WA Golden Slipper placegetter Robbie Rocket (1.56.3, $142K), Champagne Classic runner-up Major Overs (1.55.3, $58K) and the lightly raced city winning filly Sonic Suzy (1.55.7, $25K).
Lot 509 is a colt by Shoobees Place from Rocknroll Hanover mare Nowuseemegirl (1.54.6, $41K).
Shoobees Place has outstanding statistics from limited opportunities at stud, leaving outstanding gelding Shoobee Doo (1.49.8, $440K) and NSW Derby winner Bettor Be The Best (1.49.8, $392K).
Shoobees Place and Rocknroll Hanover are both from the amazing Shifting Sands family that has produced a host of champion sires, including Panorama and Grinfromeartoear.
The colt’s grandam Nowuseeme was a quality race mare, winning the Race For Races and $287,000 in stakes.
It is a family of prolific winners, with latest being impressive two-year-old Iseeubaby scoring in 1.58.3 at her Bunbury debut on February 17.
Lot 529 is a filly by boom sire Downbytheseaside from broodmare gem Slick Bird, who has left a $400,000 earner and three $100,000 earners from her first four foals.
They are Daintys Daughter Classic winner Slick Artist (1.52, $400K), While They Pray (1.54.7, $170K), WA Oaks placegetter Acharne Girl (1.55.8, $133K) and Faster Than Dad (1.55.5, $125K).
Slick Bird was also a WA Oaks placegetter and is a half sister to NZ Southland Oaks winner Smokin Bird.
In the US, Downbytheseaside’s million dollar earner Sea Silk is out of a Bettors Delight mare.
Lot 530 is a colt by Fly Like An Eagle from young Art Major mare Sienna Artiste.
The colt’s dam is a half sister to WA Oaks placegetter Intheskyrocket (1.51.4, $201K) from the family of grand circuit performers Bondi Lockdown (1.50.3, $443K) and Restrepo (1.52.4, $527K) plus a host of $100,000 earners.
He is being prepared by respected horseman Mick Holtham, who said the colt was tall and athletic and had his sire’s rockstar looks.
“He is a nice colt. He is upstanding, has a long barrel and is good to work with,” Holtham said.
Lot 540 is one of only two colts by supersire Bettors Delight in the Perth sale and has the potential to be a sale topper late in the day.
He is out of impeccably bred, high quality Somebeachsomewhere mare Tiffany Rose (1.55.1, $164K), who won 10 races as a three-year-old including the Group 2 The Lombardo at Gloucester Park.
She is a half sister to Group 1 winning two-year-old Code Black (1.50.8, $373K) and Lovin Miss Daisy (1.50.4, $347K), who are both by Bettors Delight – making them three-quarter relations to this year’s sales colt.
