With a game first-over move in the backstretch, Lit De Rose (Leader Bayama) was able to collar harness racing leader, Tony’s Mom, en route to an easy victory in the $35,000 Fillies & Mares Invitational Pace Friday (March 1) at Yonkers Raceway.
The 4th race feature saw Tony’s Mom and driver Yannick Gingras scoot to the early lead with Uptown Hanover (George Brennan) grabbing the two-hole spot to the first quarters in :28.1.
With no challengers, Tony’s Mom led the field past the half mile marker in :57. It was in the backstretch when trainer-driver Pat Lachance took the race favorite, Lit De Rose, first-over from third place as they hit the three-quarters in 1:25.1.
Around the final turn, Lit De Rose was in second place and once they started down the stretch, Lit De Rose came after Tony’s Mom and beat her to the wire to win by three-quarters of a length in 1:53.1. Uptown Hanover was third.
LIT DE ROSE REPLAY
It was the first win in two starts this year for Lit De Rose. The nine-year-old mare was an 11-race winner last season. She is bred and owned by Guy Corbeil of Quebec and paid $4.10 to win.
