Cream Ridge, NJ – 3/7/2024 – The Standardbred Retirement Foundation’s, (SRF) latest harness racing rescue effort brought the grand gal, Grandiose Gal from standing at a kill lot in Texas to a loving home in Kansas.
Grandiose Gal, a daughter of Jate Lobell was foaled in 2003. She earned $410,566 and raced until 2008. She was then bred every year after through 2023.
When SRF was made aware of her perilous situation, past owners were contacted. Half the funds needed to bring her to safety were donated. The remaining came through SRF’s efforts on social media. GG, as she is often called, was still in decent health and was able to leave the slaughter line without immediate rehabilitation. This is always a concern when they must travel long distances after being transported from auction to auction and pen to pen.
Her adopter, a lovely lady who has roots in harness racing, opened her farm to this notable mare. The photos from her new home show how grand and proud she is now!
This classy mare was fortunate to have the mission of SRF to help. Many accrediting bodies providing grants to organizations will not provide support of any type to organizations coming to the aid of horses facing slaughter. SRF’s follow-up program and it’s remaining the guardian of each horse for life help to protect horses from recycling back to the slaughter line.
