Truro Raceway is pleased to announce their hosting of the first ever Atlantic Women’s Driver Challenge, an all-female driver’s event on Sunday, July 21st, 2024.
The event will see 7 female drivers compete in 5 races on Truro Raceway’s afternoon card. All 4 licensed female drivers in Atlantic Canada will participate, as well as 3 Ontario based drivers.
Headlining the event is Canada’s all time leading female driver for wins and money earnings, Antigonish native Clare MacDonald and the 2-time OLG Ontario Women’s Driving Championship winner Natasha Day. “I’m honoured to be invited to participate in the Atlantic Women’s Driver Challenge at Truro Raceway. So happy to see more tracks coming onboard with women’s races and more women drivers being recognized in the bike.” said Day.
The pride of PEI, driver Ambyr Campbell will represent her home province, while Truro’s very own Tammy Mackay will fly the colours as the sentimental hometown favourite. Impressive 2023 Inverness Raceway rookie driving sensation Monica Sutherland will look to show her stuff in the field, as will Ontario Women’s Drivers Championship driving participant and Midland, Ontario native Maggie Jones and Kawartha Downs regular and Bailieboro, Ontario native Samara Johnson.
“I am very excited to take part in The Harness the Hope Ladies’ Drivers’ Fundraiser at Truro Raceway. This charity event is for those who have been personally affected by breast cancer.
There have been several fundraisers at quite a few racetracks to benefit cancer support programs, awareness, and research within Canada. Taking part in Truro Raceway’s Harness the Hope Fundraiser is a wonderful opportunity to benefit breast cancer research in our local area.
To add to it, being part of a ladies’ driver challenge is always exciting. I’ve been to quite a few of these events over the years, but nothing compares to racing at home. Being at your home racetrack with familiar faces, lots of good friends, and a new grandstand facility will surely add to the day’s excitement. I am very thankful for the opportunity to participate.” commented Mackay.
