The third race Friday (Mar. 8) at Woodbine Mohawk Park was an All Women’s Race in honour of International Women’s Day and all the women in the harness racing industry.
Julie Walker was the winning driver and she was in the sulky behind Prince Of Sussex (Creatine). The five-year-old trotter tried for the early lead but was outdueled by Meadowbranch Noble (Jessica Turenne). Even though Meadowbranch Noble was caught out two wide, he posted an opening quarter of 27.0.
Prince Of Sussex sat comfortably in the pocket as the field passed the half-mile station in 56.4. Traffic started to form around the three-quarter mark and Meadowbranch Noble started to fade. Prince Of Sussex snuck up the inside and won by three lengths in 1:55.4
Zip Me Up (Natasha Day) was second best while Eden Onthehill (Samara Johnson) rallied for third.
PRINCE OF SUSSEX REPLAY
Julie Walker earns her 12th career driving win and currently sits a perfect one-for-one on the year.
An accident occurred in the first race involving Stay Special (Jonathan Drury) and Yes Im Hungry (Phil Hudon). All reports indicated that both horses and drivers were ok after the incident.
Racing resumes at Woodbine Mohawk Park on Saturday (Mar. 9) at 7:10 p.m. EST.
