LAST CALL FOR SPRING SERIES NOMINATIONS
With our first round of Spring Series now underway, it’s time for horse owners to get their sophomores nominated for the second round, with nominations closing this Friday, March 15. The April races will be for three-year-olds only, and horses must be non-winners of 3PM races or $30,000 lifetime up to and including March 1. For additional details and eligibility information, please contact The Meadows’ Race Office at 724-225-9897.
EXPANDED RACE CARDS, GUARANTEED LUCKY 7
With the first round of Spring Series races continuing this week, The Meadows has carded 14 races for both Wednesday and Thursday (March 13-14). Friday’s card has not yet been drawn as of today, but this past Friday’s card also was expanded to 14 races. Rolling doubles, three Pick-4s, three Pentafectas, a Pick-5 and The Meadows’ Lucky7 are offered daily. Wednesday’s Lucky7, races 3-9, will carry a $3,000 guarantee on the pool.
PALONE, WRENN TIED ATOP STANDINGS
Drivers Dave Palone and Ronnie Wrenn will enter the week tied with 65 wins atop the standings. Aaron Merriman is closing quickly with 60, after adding 10 in the last three cards. Among drivers with fewer starts, Ridge Warren, who has been back at the Meadows for one month, has made an impact. He was won 14% of his drives so far (12-for-85).
JENSON POSTING STRONG NUMBERS
Another driver that is getting more opportunities at The Meadows is Brady Jenson. Jenson has been competing at The Meadows the past couple of seasons mostly as a trainer, despite driving quite a bit at Running Aces in the summer. This season, Jenson has been picking up several catch drives in addition to driving all of the horses from his own barn. He is currently tied for 7th among drivers with 15 wins, and is winning at a 14.3% clip (15-for-105). As a trainer, Jenson is tied for 9th with 9 wins, and has a UTRS trainer rating of .291.
