New Holland Pacing Series underway at Mohawk

Th first leg of the New Holland Pacing Series took place Saturday (Mar.16) night during the ten-dash harness racing card. There were two splits for the event and the took place in the second and third race.

Hp Momentum winning the first leg of the New Holland Pacing Series

Hp Momentum (Control The Moment) took the first split of the New Holland Pacing Series. Trevor Henry guided the five-year-old gelding into sixth place early on. Poseidon Seelster (Tyler Moore) set the early pace and set fractions of 26.4, 56.2 and 1:23.4. Just after the half-mile station, Hp Momentum made his move but had a long way to go. He had to come three-wide around the last turn, Hp Momentum paced a last quarter of 28.3 and the final mile time was 1:53.

Poseidon Seelster held onto second and The Greek Freak (Tyler Jones) charged hard late to capture third.

HP MOMENTUM REPLAY

This is the first win of the year for Hp Momentum and the tenth of his career. The Quebec-bred pacer is trained by Shayne Barrington.

The second split was won by Jilliby Dynamite A (Captaintreacherous). Tyler Borth wanted the front end and paced an opening quarter of 27.2. Uncle Shank (James Macdonald) took the lead just after hitting the half-mile station in 55.4. Powertrain (Louis-Phillipe Roy) would also try to make a move and boxed Jilliby Dynamite A in briefly. It wasn’t until deep down the stretch that Jilliby Dynamite A was able to find space and motor his way to victory. A last quarter of 28.3 was needed to win and the final mile time was 1:53.1.

Whichwaytothebeach (Sylvain Filion) finished second and Uncle Shank held onto third.

JILLIBY DYNAMITE A REPLAY

It’s the fourth win of the year for Jilliby Dynamite A and his 19th lifetime. The seven-year-old gelding is trained by Meg Crone and originally hails from Australia.

The second leg of the New Holland Pacing Series is set for Mar. 23 but the trotters will have their second leg on Mar. 18.

Racing resumes at Woodbine Mohawk Park on Monday (Mar. 18) at 7:10 p.m. EST.
