Tipsy Turvy (Bacardi Lindy) will look to add a Group 1 to her harness racing resume before a trip to the breeding barn in Saturday night’s $75,000 Aldebaran Park Sumthingaboutmaori Mares Trotters Free For All at Melton Entertainment Park.
The Maree Caldow-prepared six-year-old is ready to go ahead of the 2760m feature.
“She is going well and she hasn’t had much luck in her last few races, but we are happy with where she is at,” Caldow said.
The squaregaiter has drawn barrier 10, giving Maree’s husband and reinsman John an opportunity to land a nice spot in the running line.
“Because it is a step up in grade, she is racing against the best trotting mares in Victoria,” she said. “(The draw) will suit her because of the emergency it makes it nine. So if the speed is on, it will suit her.
“Hopefully it’s a truly run race and she can show a bit of zip at the end.”
The field is bookended by the Anton Golino-prepared Im Ready Jet (one) and Brent Lilley-trained Queen Elida (13), with that pair sitting clearly at the top of the TAB market.
Tipsy Turvy’s last run came on March 9 when she finished second to the Brent Thompson-trained Sebastians Boy at Melton.
“She is probably thereabouts and she probably needs everything to go well. She is not the best one in the field, but she can capitalise on the right run,” Caldow said.
This will most likely be the final racing season for the daughter of Love You, with motherhood beckoning for the winner of 11 races from 59 starts.
“The owner Evan Crick is keen on sending her to stud at the end of the season,” Caldow said. “I’m pretty sure this will be her last racing season.”
The winner of over $128,000 has given Maree and John Caldow so many reasons to smile throughout the journey.
“She has just done a fabulous job,” she said.
“If every horse in the stable wins $100,000, (it would be great). It has given us a lot of fun times.”
