Cream Ridge, NJ – 3/22/2024–A very generous $25,000 match has been gifted to meet the demands to feed the herd at the Standardbred Retirement Foundation, (SRF).
As of today 22%, of the match has been met. Every dollar donated is being matched dollar for dollar. Seventy-eight percent or $19,500 to purchase hay remains a challenge to meet by Thursday, March 27, 2024. This much-needed help to feed the horses is only available when a donation to SRF is received from its supporters first. Of the 2,777 bales this will provide 611 have been received. This leaves 2,166 still available to match.
The cost of a bale of hay ranges from $8-10. It will feed one of SRF’s horses in NJ for a little less than two days when the weather is cool, more is needed when it drops near freezing. This has been the case several times this week.Ā NJ is not the only facility in need,Ā its horses in other locations in five states are also affected.
On a daily basis 480-500 trotters and pacers are under SRF’s care and expense. Adoptions slowed due to weather during the last three months. The result is a larger herd to feed. Last summer the fields were dry and brittle when the normal has been beautiful grass to feed on. Early winter brought bitter cold; hay is how horses keep themselves warm. All these factors and the present weather below freezing at night, a rainstorm expected for the next two days has the supply severely impacted.
It isĀ asking its supporters to help meet this match, it is urgent. The link to donate is below. SRF staff is available at 609-738-3255, orĀ SRFFundraising@gmail.com.
