Welcome into our Speed In The Breed article. A look into the successful families represented at the trials and workouts.
If you look into the sales catalogue or those that find fame out on the track in the features races youāre likely to find that many of the champions of today come from great families of the past. Here we touch on that habit of success- how the great families continue to leave the very best.
Although limited in numbers the North Otago, Ashburton, and North Canterbury trials and workouts tomorrow do have their talking points – these would include –
Captain Publisher (Captain Crunch – Neverland Franco) Lining up in the second of the day at Rangiora, this 2-year-old son of Captain Crunch has plenty of breeding behind him. Dam Neverland Franco has already left the 6-time winner in The Publisher (Changeover) and Master Publisher (A Rocknroll Dance) a 15-race winner – those winning habits have been trumped by yet another of her progeny with Sonny Orlando (Lis Mara) winning some 18 races over an extended career. Captain Publisher is trained by Mark Smolenski and itāll be interesting to see his development going forward.
Better Than Lizzy (Bettorās Delight -Dizzy Miss Lizzy) There’s a lot to like about this prospect out of the Cran and Chrissie Dalgety barn. While the Bettorās Delight factor is an obvious tick itās the damline that really adds the exclamation mark here. Dizzy Miss Lizzy won both the NZ Yearling Sales 2YO Fillies Final and 2YO Diamond features of 2017 – those victories helping her to obtaining over $270ā000 in career earnings from her 35 starts. Better Than Lizzy is the first foal out of Dizzy Miss Lizzy and will look to improve her form after running 6thĀ and 4thĀ in her recent trials.

Showcase (Vincent – Here We Go Again) It’s the first time we’ll see this exciting prospect going around with the daughter of Vincent due to take her place in the 1st of the day at Ashburton. Here We Go Again is proving herself a fine broodmare with recent efforts by Warrior Chief (Sweet Lou) and Remission (Betting Line) adding to her prowess as a mother – then again, with superstar mare Kym’s Girl as a grandam Showcase is certainly in possession of plenty of royal blood.

Mystery Beach (Bettor’s Delight – Yea Baby) The Mark Jones stable and Mystery Beach make an appearance in the early heats at Ashburton with this well-bred son of Bettor’s Delight. Dam Yea Baby was lightly raced while grandam O Baby swept race rivals aside in the Sires Stake 2YO Fillies Championship of 2011, the Nevele R Fillies Series Final of the following year, and the 3YO Fillies Diamond -her overall race record an amazing one against strong peers. It’s a high-class family with Mystery Beach poised to add another chapter to the family history books.
Galleons Grandson (Majestic Son – Rae Galleon) The Williamson barn is never too far away from uncovering the next trotting star and that could well be the case with Galleons Grandson – although patience has obviously been required with this now 7yr-old. Dam Rae Galleon has already left the smart Daenerys Stormborn (9 wins) while Real Moonshine, a recent winner at the Reefton meeting on the 10th of March, is also from the mare. Ā Galleons Grandson is set to appear at Oamaru tomorrow.
Delta Kilo (Sweet Lou – Star Of Heaven) An interesting runner out of the K Bublitz stable. This is a damline with a high degree of success. Delta Kilo can count the now 26-time winner in Ideal Star (American Ideal) among his siblings alongside the 3-time winner in Starry Star (Bettorās Delight) The wider family includes the distinguished Cruz (American Ideal) a winner of a number of Listed features in Australia, notably the Mr Feelgood Open in 2020 at Albion Park. Cruz also claimed a major Group racing feature, winning the Gr2 2020 Queensland Cup over Colt Thirty One. Other performers from Grandam Close To Heaven include the 13-time winner in Heaven’s Delight (Bettorās Delight) and Macheaven (Mach Three) who is placed at Listed level.
