Carro B Bunsen (Blue Burner) defeated favourite Icy Blue Scooter in the featured Preferred 2 at Century Downs on Saturday (Apr. 6) in a 5-1 harness racing upset.
Carro B Bunsen occupied the three-hole through a :28 first quarter provided by Redstone Arsenal (Brandon Campbell) and swung to the outside approaching the half in :57.
With Icy Blue Scooter (Nathan Sobey) on his back, Logan Gillis pushed Carro B Bunsen to the lead prior to three-quarters in 1:25.2. The gelding and pulled away by two-and-a-half lengths heading into the stretch and held off the closing Icy Blue Scooter by a head in 1:54.2.
Wine Thirty (Michael Hennessy) also made a late dash, finishing third by three-quarters-of-a-length.
CARRO B BUNSEN REPLAY
Carro B Bunsen’s victory was his first at the Preferred level since 2022. The Gillis-trained gelding is now 13-for-104 lifetime and has earned $128,957. Gillis co-owns the six-year-old with Brock Maclellan of Fort McMurray.
Century Downs will see racing again on Friday, Apr. 12.
