Fly The Banner with a double for trainer Rob Caton

Riding the crest of a wave, Rob Caton registered a personal harness racing milestone yesterday.

Balancing a boutique stable with his employment at Globe Derby, Caton prepares a team of four, with two scoring at his work’s venue.

As such, the underrated horseman registered his first training double.

“That was the first double I have had training on my own,” Caton said. “I have had doubles before, but that was in a training partnership.

“Getting that first one in just my name does make it a little more special.

“I’ve got four in work, but those two are the only ones racing, so to have both win on the same day is great.”

With Samantha Pascoe in the cart, Diamond Mounted (Betterthancheddar) continued her impressive start to the season by notching her third success from five outings.

After enjoying the perfect one-one trip, Diamond Mounted sprinted to a three-and-a-half metre win from Teddy Sandel, with Paulis Pride 22 metres away third.

Rating 2:01.2 over 1800 metres, the daughter of Betterthancheddar’s time was 2.2 seconds slower than her stablemate, Fly The Banner.

Driven by David Smith, Fly The Banner completed consecutive wins as Alive And Free and Mollys Line filled the placings.

“They have both done well this time in,” Caton said. “Between them they’ve had 10 starts this season for five wins and four placings.

“That said, they’ve earned a couple of weeks off now, so I’ll put them in the paddock and start winding the other two up for the races.”
