CHARLOTTETOWN, PE – Commanding the lead, Chelski (Rollwithitharry-Safety Net) sprinted to the harness racing finish in the Saturday evening (May 4) top class on opening day at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.
The $3,450 featured Fillies and Mares Pace saw driver Corey MacPherson have the call on the Jennifer Doyle trainee, as part of a training triple from her Earnsclife operation.
Chelski struck the lead last the quarter in 30.2 then grabbed a :32 second breather in the second split of 1:02.2 before hitting three-quarters in 1:32.1. The final stanza was a snappy :28 flat panel as Tobins Brownie (Driven by David Dowling) charged up to finish second with pocket sitter Elm Grove Mistress (Damian MacLellan) third.
Jeffrey and Robert Skinner of Nova Scotia share ownership of the seven-year-old mare.
Other Doyle winners included Spectrum Seelster (Dowling) in 1:56.2 and First Glance (MacPherson) with an identical 1:56.2 clocking.
Driver Marc Campbell had a hat trick on the evening winning with Imalookertoo (1:56) for trainer Jeff Holmes, Pendleton Rodeo (1:58.4) from his own barn and St Charles Fireball (2:00.4) for trainer Vaughan Doyle.
