Outlawabovenbeyond (Captive Audience) proved very much the best in the $45,000 Bev Sears Memorial for four-year-old harness racing mares on Saturday (May 4) at Century Downs
Michael Hennessy ensured the mare protected pylon positioning and led the field of eight through :28.4, :58, and 1:26 fractions. The mare shifted into top gear turning for home and kicked away from her foes, streaking to a six-length score in 1:54.2. Riskofthunderstorm (Colin Kelly) was second-best with Tina La Vida (Doug Chappell) several lengths back in third.
OUTLAWABOVENBEYOND REPLAY
Outlawabovenbeyond is perfect through five starts this year for trainer Rodney Starkewski. The four-year-old went four-for-11 in her debut season last year while competing in several Alberta stakes events. She has now won nine times and has earned $58,587 in 16 career attempts. Starkewski co-owns her with Clauzette Byckal of Onoway.
Hennessy swept the cardās stakes events as he captured the $30,000 Ed Tracey Memorial behind Up Yer Kilt (Mystician) for four-year-old males. He got the stallion to the lead going down the backstretch with a three-wide surge from second-over, and Up Yer Kilt resisted Opulent Dragon (Nathan Sobey) and Yru So Sirius (Kelly) down the lane to secure a one-length victory in 1:56.2.
Opulent Dragon got by Yru So Sirius for place with the latter completing the ticket.
UP YER KILT REPLAY
Up Yer Kilt took his elimination convincingly and has won four of his past six starts. The Rodney Hennessy-trained four-year-old is now nine-for-29 lifetime with a bankroll of $60,512. Rodney Hennessy co-owns the four-year-old with Diane Hennessy.
The two stakes scores were part of a four-win day for Mike Hennessy.
Century Downs will resume racing on Friday, May 10.
