Harness racing Dan Clements and Garrett Rooney both won three races on the 10-race opening day card at Hiawatha Horse Park on Saturday (May 4).
Clements kicked off the season with victory, taking Gourmet Cook (Stay Hungry) all the way in 2:00 for trainer Jason Libby. It was a maiden-breaking score for the three-year-old filly. The reinsmanās other winners were Shovanna (Straight Shooting, 1:56.3) and Wisk Key K (Bettors Delight, 1:56.2).
Rooneyās triple came as a natural hat trick, starting with Downstairs Party (Kadabra, 1:58.3) in the sixth. He then steered Hp Musical Alarm (Alarm Detector, 2:01) and Something Royal (Western Paradise, 1:56.3) to wins in back-to-back races.
Rooney was last yearās leading driver at Hiawatha Horse Park, more than 20 wins clear of Andy Moore in second. Clements was third.
Hiawatha Horse Park will race weekly on Saturday until Sep. 21.
