CHARLOTTETOWN, PE – With a crushing brush to the lead, Tobins Brownie (Stonebridge Terror) carved her way to the winner’s circle in the Thursday evening featured pace on a night full of similarly bred winners at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.

David Dowling doubled up on the evening as a trainer-driver with Tobins Brownie delivering his second win in the $3,700 Fillies and Mares Preferred Pace. The six-year-old mare sprinted hard off the gate to grab the lead from post 4 then got the fractions to her liking with splits of :30, :59.4 and 1:29.1.

The final quarter was a dash to the finish as Rosetown Mary (Driven by Corey MacPherson) came pacing hard from the backfield, but Tobins Brownie held her ground in a :27.2 stanza to win in 1:56.3 for owners Brittany Dowling, Sandra Weeks and Erroll Burgoyne. Rosetown Mary was second ahead of Share The Moment (Gilles Barrieau).

Dowling prevailed earlier on the card as another Stonebridge Terror pupil, Elm Grove Redwine, took a pocket ride to victory in 1:58.3 in race 4. The four-year-old mare track down pacesetter and favourite High Roller (Adam Merner) in the $2,750 event then fending off a closing Redland Peaches (Mike McGuigan).

Another Stonebridge Terror mare, nine-year-old Elm Grove Misty opened up the program in an action-packed dash to win in 1:58 for trainer-driver Dave Kelly Sr., and owner Charlene Cypher of Springvale. The free-legged lass went off at 12-1 odds on top of a $1 exactor pay of $494.25.

Live racing continues Saturday evening at 6 P.M. at Red Shores Charlottetown while Red Shores Summerside will open up the 2024 season on Victoria Day Monday (May 20) at 1 P.M.
