CHARLOTTETOWN, PE – Island Beach Boy (Somebeachsomewhere) sports the fastest opening quarter in Atlantic Canadian Harness Racing history, and he has rail control in the Saturday evening (June 1) feature at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.
The capital oval has 12-dashes on display Saturday evening with a 6 P.M. opening post time.
The fast-leaving Island Beach Boy has nothing but pylons to his inside in the race 11 featured pace for $3,500. Gilles Barrieau will pick up the catch drive from the Tom Weatherbie stable for owners Ian Smith and Arnold Hagen. The six-year-old was victorious in his lone start of 2024 winning in 1:55 in a two-hole ride in line to Brodie MacPhee.
MacPhee will drive fellow Weatherbie stablemate Fern Hill General from post 2 as the morning line favourite after a fifth-place finish in the Preferred Pace last week.
Burn Out Hanover (To be driven by Brady Sweet) leaves from post 3 for trainer Jeff Holmes at 8-1 in the morning line.
Post 4 has Impeccable Shadow (Adam Merner) at 10-1 on the morning line fresh off a 1:55 victory from the Melissa Rennie stable.
Laughagain Hanover (Mark Bradley) holds down post 5 at 7-2 odds for trainer Ashley Gamester.
Trainer Jennifer Doyle has the final two entries with post 6 starter First Glance (Corey MacPherson) at 6-1 in the program and Spectrum Seelster (David Dowling) at 3-1 from post 7 dropping from the Preferred level.
The Post Time Picks will take Island Beach Boy on top after his favourable post position draw.
“Island Beach Boy toyed with his competition in his 2024 debut last week. He flashed his great gate speed and was content to take the easier two-hole trip to victory. He faces a tougher group this week but should get all the respect from the rail. I think he leads gate-to-wire tonight.”
