Let Her Roll lives up to her name

Two-year-old filly Let Her Roll’s (Sweet Lou) winning South Australian harness racing form translated into a dominant display in the Alabar Sapling Stakes at Melton tonight (Jun 1).

Mark Pitt who had a winning Melton treble

Trainer Clayton Tonkin elected to send the daughter of Breeders Crown winning mare Rocknroll Magic (Rock N Roll Heaven) interstate after her first-up win at Ballarat in April.

She duly scored comprehensive wins in the heat and final of the $25,000 Southern Stars series at Globe Derby Park.

Now back home at Ballarat, Let Her Roll continued on her winning way to score by five metres over stablemate Ill Be Gone (Jackie Barker), with Golden Shooz (Greg Sugars) a further 15 metres back.

Let Her Roll shot to the front from her barrier three draw, then lived up to her name, covering the 1720 metre trip in a mile rate of 1:54.9, impressing the stable’s number one driver Mark Pitt.

“The few starts to date have been full of merit and very impressive in my eyes, so I thought I could drive her pretty confident.  It’s the strongest field she has been in yet, so I was really happy with her,” he said.

“As we know, if you take one away from home, they usually come back a bit better.  The trip away is something different for them, gets them out of routine.  She has settled back in at home and she did a really good job tonight.”

He said Let Her Roll would be targeting the Vicbred and other 2yo features later in the season.

Pitt and Tonkin each had three starters at the Melton meeting – for a treble each. Their other winners were Perfect Class (Captaintreacherous) in the opening event, the Allied Express Pace, and Gawn (Captaintreacherous) in the Australian Pacing Gold Pace (Race 5).
