Leon Bailey wins both co-features at Vernon

Harness racing driver Leon Bailey had a grand slam while sweeping the co-features with Warrawee Unique (Sweet Lou) and Bourbon Express (RC Royalty) at Vernon Downs on Saturday (June 1).

Warrawee Unique ($8.60) cruises to the win in the $7,500 featured pace.

Le Massif (Steeven Genois) went to the front and led to the quarter in :27.1.  Warrawee Unique then went on by going around the first turn.  He led to the half in :55.0 and to three-quarters in 1;22.0.

As they reached the stretch it became a battle for second as Warrawee Unique breezed to a win in 1:50.3.  Takeittotheface (John MacDonald) came up to finish second.  Old Pal (Truman Gale) finished third.

WARRAWEE UNIQUE REPLAY

Warrawee Unique is an 8-year-old gelding owned by the Betcha Win Stable and trained by Jeff Sorenson.  It was his third win this season.  He now has 27 career victories.

Bourbon Express ($5.30) wins the $7,500 featured trot.

Bourbon Express went three-wide heading to the first turn hitting the quarter first in :26.3.  He slowed things down with a :30.1 second quarter to be first to the half in :56.4.  He widened the lead heading around the final turn and led to three-quarters in 1:26.3.

As they entered the stretch Golden Kronos (Steeven Genois) and Crazy Fool (Claude Huckabone Jr.) went on the chase, but Bourbon Express had plenty in the tank and won in 1:55.4.  Golden Kronos was second best.  Crazy Fool finished third.

Bourbon Express is a 7-year-old gelding owned by Sal Vullo, James DeArmond, and trainer Jessica Okusko.  It was his third win this season.  He now has 27 career victories.

BOURBON EXPRESS REPLAY

Bailey got his other wins with Ponderance and Nicholas Blue Chip.

Vernon Downs returns to live racing on Friday (June 7) at 4 pm.
