Anton Golino has a big decision to make in regards to his flash new import, Callmethebreeze (Trixton) ahead of a possible Inter Dominion harness racing debut.
The six-year-old made his way into the Victorian harness racing vernacular with an upset win in the 2024 Great Southern Star edging out star squaregaiter, Just Believe , the French born-colt was triumphant in the heat and final with reinsman, Nathan Jack in the sulky.
The bay colt out of Trixton has been spelling since his last run in the TAB Trot in New Zealand, where the sqauregaiter finished second.
āHe is back and he is jogging for about four weeks now, he looks great,ā Golino said. āHe looks amazing, he is happy and healthy.ā
The sqauregaiter has had six runs in Australia since making the move from the northern hemisphere.
āHe was ready for a break, he had a quarter crack in New Zealand,ā the 43-year-old said.
āHe has done a great job since travelling from Europe to come out here. We screwed him down pretty tight to have him ready for the Great Southern Star.
āHe was ready for a little break, I couldnāt be happier with him right now.ā
The 2024 Inter Dominion is not out of the question for Golino and the Yabby Dam Farms team.
āHe is a very good horse, he has done great with everything he has had to overcome, but as you know they are a tough series the Inter Dominion,ā he said.
āWe havenāt sat down to say we would target it (Inter Dominion) or anything else. Iām not sure on that. I need to sit down with Pat (Driscoll) but there is no immediate target.ā
The Yabby Dam Farms stalwart has already had a great start to 2024 with three Group 1ās alongside the Great Southern Star, the 43-year-old has also claimed the Hammerhead Mile and the MacArthur Mile at Menangle.
