For the third straight week, harness racing owner Sam Bowie’s Energetic Hanover (Captaintreacherous) has been unbeatable at Yonkers Raceway, winning the Invitational Pace again on Monday (June 10) night.
The $39,000 7th race feature first saw Boiling Oar (Matt Kakaley) go right to the early lead from post six with Big Gulp (Mark MacDonald) sitting the pocket trip and race favorite Energetic Hanover (Jason Bartlett) in third place.
The first quarter went in :27 and the field raced single file through the half mile in :56. Then in the backstretch, Bartlett came first-over with Energetic Hanover as Moonshine Kisses (George Brennan) followed second-over.
Boiling Oar still led the field at the three-quarters in 1:23.2 and led around the final turn, but then in the stretch Energetic Hanover kept grinding it out against Boiling Oar, getting up in the final strides to win by a neck in 1:51.2. Big Gulp was third.
ENERGETIC HANOVER REPLAY
It was the seventh victory of the year for Energetic Hanover. The five-year-old gelding is trained by Tony Alagna for Bowie, the former college and NBA basketball star. Energetic Hanover paid $4.90 to win.
In the 2nd race $35,000 Open Pace for 3-6-year-olds, Dunkin’ (Pet Rock) and driver Jim Marohn, Jr. also got away in third place, came first-over in the backstretch and got up in the stretch to win by a half a length in 1:51.3.
It’s a Me Mario (Jason Bartlett) was second with Pleaselemeknow (Matt Kakaley) third. It was the sixth win this year for the four-year-old gelding who is trained by Scott Di Domenico for owner Betty Clegg. He paid $11.00 to win.
