Welcome into our Speed In The Breed article. A look into the successful families represented at the trials and workouts.
If you look into the sales catalogue or those that find fame out on the track in the features races youāre likely to find that many of the champions of today come from great families of the past. Here we touch on that habit of success- how the great families of harness racing continue to leave the very best.
RangioraĀ trials are set to be run on 26thĀ of June, among those in possession of some royal bloodlines areā¦
Regal Spirit (Majestic Son – Sunny Spirit) Among those lining up in the first qualifying heat of the day is this son of Majestic Son. The Smolenski trained runner traces back to some great racetrack performers with notable names in the family being Sunny Ruby, the Gr1 V L Dullard and Maori Mile winner of 2017 and, a little further back in the bloodlines, the great Diedreās Pride, a winner of some 21 races and owner of a 2ndĀ placing in the Rowe Memorial Gold Cup of 1997 behind Eastburn Grant.
Regal Spirit looks to improve on a recent workout gallop.
Moonlite (Art Major – Miss Moonlite) Catching the eye instantly because of the winning character of his mother is this Andrew Stuart trained runner. Moonlite rounded off a workout pace well last week, showing a genuine willingness in the run to the line – heāll no doubt look to improve into a first racetrack appearance soon enough. Dam Miss Moonlite captured the Breeders Crown title for 4YO Mare at Melton in 2012, since then sheās also proven herself a capable mother, leaving the 10-time winner Master Moonlite (Art Major)Ā as her first foal and the now 13-time winner in Moonlite Drive (Bettorās Delight)Ā soon after. Look for Moonlite to be casting a gentle light on the winning post ASAP.

Captain Christian (CaptaintreacherousĀ – A Christian Act) A 2yr-old that should be followed closely. This Telfer trained juvenile is a 1/2 brother to both A Bettor Act (6 wins) and A Delightful Act (4 wins) while another sibling Sheās A Major Act also appeared on the Addington as recently as last week. The power of his sire is well known with the progeny of Captaintreacherous meeting with some amazing results, particularly in age-group racing features across North America.

Christian Bale (Vincent – Helena Jet) Heās a great actor but can he run? The Hope barn brings forth this exciting son of Vincent in one of the workout learners heats late in the card. Christian Bale is out of mare Helena Jet, she possessed a mighty sprint, establishing herself in the top echelon of her peers, a win in the Listed Southern Mare Classic of 2014, and a fine 2ndĀ in the Gr1 Queen Of Hearts of 2014 behind superstar Adore Me among her standout results on the track. As a mother Helena Jet has left, among others, the Neal trained Nicholas Cage, a 6-time winner.
