ALBANY, N.Y.—The 2024 New York Sire Stakes County Fair Series harness racing season begins on Friday, July 5, at Goshen Historic Track in Goshen, N.Y. The opening day race program will feature 2- and 3-year-old races beginning at 1 p.m. EST. Goshen Historic Track is the world’s oldest active harness racing track after being established in 1838.
The County Fair Series offers Standardbreds a racing program to gain experience in harness racing across New York with the opportunity to eventually compete in the New York Sire Stakes and Excelsior Series.
“We are excited to get the County Fair Series season started and bring together highly competitive harness racing in family-friendly environments at fairs across New York all summer long,” said Ralph Scunziano, Executive Director of the Agriculture & New York State Horse Breeding Development Fund.

The New York Sire Stakes is the state’s premier harness racing program for 2- and 3-year-old Standardbreds. Established to encourage the breeding, buying and racing of Standardbred horses in New York, it is the nation’s oldest harness racing program of its kind and has served as a model for state-bred racing programs.
