Summerside, PE – Middelton Terror (Stonebridge Terror) won the Monday afternoon (July 1) harness racing feature at Red Shores Summerside during the traditional Canada Day program.
Middelton Terror, under the command of David Dowling, floated away off the gate from post 5 and sat fourth in the early going as long-shot Coasttocoastshark (Jacob Sweet) set up the opening panel in 28.1.
With the half reached in 57.3, Dowling asked Middelton Terror to apply some pressure to the leaders as they continued to advance first up on route to the three-quarters in 1:27.1.
The duo marched to victory in deep stretch for their fourth win of the season holding off a late surge from Spectrum Seelster (Damian MacLellan) while Coasttocoastshark held on for a hard fought third. The time of the mile was 1:57 flat. Dowling trains the star pacer for owners Kingsley Walsh, Albany, PE and Frank Balcom, Amherst, NS. The 5-2-1 triactor returned $26.40.
Celebrating 138 years of racing, The Prince County oval hosted the Summerside Legion Branch #5 as they presented a special cooler with the trackside ceremony attended by her Honour Antoniette Perry, Lieutenant Governor of PEI. Elroy Shiner greeted the guests in the winner’s circle along with owner Frank Sweet, Knutsford, PE, driver Brady Sweet and trainer Jeff Holmes.
Howmac Charger won the Canada Day pace for Marc Campbell, Trainer Kyle Williams and owner Doug Williams, Guelph, Ontario.
Campbell enjoyed a driving triple on the day while Dowling and Ken Murphy earned driving doubles. Kyle Williams notched a training double.
Handle was $82,421.76.
