Welcome into our Speed In The Breed article. A look into the successful families represented at the trials and workouts.

If you look into the sales catalogue or those that find fame out on the track in the features races you’re likely to find that many of the champions of today come from great families of the past. Here we touch on that habit of success- how the great families continue to leave the very best.

Ashburton trials are set to be run on 9th of July. Those to catch the eye for their royal bloodlines include…

Burnham Girl (Bettor’s Delight – Tinisha Franco) It’s always nice to be able to track the juvenile talent coming through the ranks. The 1st of the day sees Mark Jones produce a couple of 2yr-old fillies, Burnham Girl being one of them. Having already seen the workouts track a couple of times Burnham Girl looks to call upon plenty of family ability, her dam won a brace and has since delivered asa mother , leaving the smart Burnham Boy, a 1.49 pacer and winner of some 19 races including a 3rd place in the Gr1 Ainsworth Free-For-All of 2021 when running behind Mach Shard and Star Galleria.

Lou Will (Sweet Lou – Rock And Roll) An interesting runner from the Chris McDowell stable, Lou Will will look to improve on recent workout form when going around in the 2nd heat of the day. Dam Rock N Roll has already left the nice pacer in Airpark Flyer (Dali) while the grandam Divine has made a real impact as a mother, leaving the 5-time winner Easy Rider (Art Official) and recent star Aardiebytheseaside (Downbytheseaside), the winner of the NZ Pacing Oaks of 2023.

Geraldine Clowers (Creatine – Gina) Out of a mare who knows how to leave a winner, Geraldine Clowers will look to follow in the hoof prints of her well-known siblings, notably Clifden Clowers (13 wins) Time In A Bottle (9 wins) and Virginia Clowers, a 9-time winner and full sister who continues to impress on Australian soil, bringing up another victory there on the 22nd of June, winning the Listed Classic Matriarch trot in the process.

It’s a proven breed with Geraldine Clowers certainly one to watch in times to come – the filly is trained by Matthew Williamson.
