The Big Rapids Pioneer reports that night two of harness racing at the Mecosta County Free Fair saw a popular win in the 2024 Celebrity Harness Race and a few strong runs from the 13 other races of the night.
Jerry Aldrich won the Celebrity Harness Race on Tuesday night, holding off Tiffany Rehkopf and Amanda Wright in the three-way battle that came down to the wire.
“Once they broke us, number one pulled ahead,” Aldrich said after the race. “Then, my horse had an opening, and the horse just took off. I was holding back but we got past the first horse. As soon as I seen the horses behind me, I got inside rail. It was just like NASCAR; it’s just holding on to the horse.”
Aldrich, sporting an American flag cutoff shirt that was one of the highlights of the night, went into the stands early in the evening to help pump up the crowd.
