CHARLOTTETOWN, PE – New Legacy (Father Patrick) provided part of an Adam Merner driving triple while winning the Thursday evening (July 11) featured harness racing event at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.
The $3,300 Open Trot saw New Legacy guard the rail from the start and sprint through fractions of :29.3, 1:00.2, 1:31.3 and 2:00 flat over a track rated two-seconds off due to rain. Jennifer Doyle trains the six-year-old for owner Danny Birt of Earnscliffe. Irish Ray (Driven by Marc Campbell) closed up to finish a length short in second with Jessiejesorjessica (David Dowling) seeing her win streak cut short to finish third.
Merner also won the finale with Woodmere Rollily in 1:57 for trainer Melissa Rennie and an ultra-impressive win with two-year-old Heston Blue Chip filly Lady Hess from the Jamie Smith barn. Lady Hess broke her maiden with a nine-length romp in 1:59.2 while closing out the mile in :27.2.
Campbell also recorded a driving triple with Skip Across (2:00.1) in race 5 for trainer Stanley Harper, The Lady Sheriff (1:58.4) in race 7 for trainer Landon Campbell and with Thinkingofyoubabe (1:56.3) for conditioner Kyle Wilkie.
