SUMMERSIDE, PE – A pair of unbeaten harness racing rookies will square off in P.E.I. Colt Stakes action Wednesday evening as Governor’s Plate Week racing continues at Red Shores at the Summerside Raceway.
The 10-dash card starts at 6 P.M., with the P.E.I. Colt Stakes featured for two-year-old pacing fillies.
The first of two $19,600 P.E.I. Colt Stakes Gold divisions heads to the gate in race 2.
Post 4 starter Lorne Valley Liv (Tobago Cays) was victorious in her career debut at the Truro Raceway with a 2:01.4 trip in the Atlantic Sires Stakes for trainer Myles Heffernan Jr., and owner Barry MacLeod of Lorne Valley, P.E.I. Adam Merner retains the catch drive on the filly .
Saulsbrook Inferno (Flameproof Hanover) was another winner that day as she remains perfect going into her second lifetime start with post 5 Wednesday. The Earl Watts trained filly for owners Windemere Farms, Hollis Newson, Jack Quinn and Sterling Buchanan.
Also in the field are Pandemonic (To be driven by Myles Heffernan Sr.), Skie Lo Lo (Corey MacPherson) and Saltwater Swinger (Mike McGuigan).
The other $19,600 Gold division for rookie fillies is in race 7 with Lady Hess (Heston Blue Chip, Merner) the top selection from post 4 for trainer Jamie Smith and owners Groupof7 Stable of Charlottetown. The filly was razor sharp in her last race winning in 1:59.2 with a 27.2 closer.
Also in the field are Muchtooyoungforyou (David Dowling), Camco Karlie (Paul Langille), Jafetica (Heffernan Sr.) and Woodmere Flojo (MacPherson).
The rookie pacing fillies also have $9,800 P.E.I. Colt Stakes Grassroots divisions in races 1, 3, 5 and 8.
The Maritime Miniature Horse series will be showcased at 4:15pm.
