Grove City, OH – Four harness racing divisions of freshmen colt trotters will wrap up the first leg in the Buckeye Stallion Series for two-year-olds Wednesday night (July 17) at MGM Northfield Park. Each of the four divisions will carry a purse of $20,000.
Twenty-five trainers will put 36 horses on the track with Jason McGinnis and Jeff Smith sending five each. Eleven stallions will be represented. Long Tom has 10 offspring behind the gate while What The Hill has nine.
In the first division, Beat The Odds (What The Hill) is the only starter with a victory under his belt. The win came at Paulding County Fair on June 10. Rosy Weaver trains the gelding. The 3-1 morning line favorite is Jars Shinnin (Uncle Peter) for Chris Beaver. This will be the first start for the colt.
McGinnis trainee Cadeau (Marseille) is the 6-5 favorite in the second division. The gelding was fifth in the $150,000 Next Generation at Eldorado Scioto Downs on July 6.
Edward Miller trains Letsgotoparis (Mister Anson), the even money favorite in the third division. Letsgotoparis will look for his second win in as many starts. He is coming off a victory at Scioto Downs in 2:00.1.
Nelli Up (Muscle Up The Goal) will try to capture his third win of the year in the fourth division. The gelding has hit the board in each of his four starts. Trained by Ryan Miller, Nelli Up is the third choice in the morning line. Flying Tom is the even money favorite. Tye Loy trains the gelded son of Long Tom.
Alongside the BSS, MGM Northfield Park will also host one division of the Ohio Sire Stakes for 3-year-old filly trotters on Wednesday. First race post time at is 6:00 PM.
