CHARLOTTETOWN, PE – Saulsbrook Ian (Betterthancheddar) got another taste of glory in the opening harness racing leg of the P.E.I. Colt Stakes Graduate Series, presented by Kays Wholesale, during Harness The Hope night Saturday at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.
The $5,500 Gold division of the P.E.I. Colt Stakes Graduate Series for four, five and six-year-old pacing horses and geldings had Saulsbrook Ian and driver Corey MacPherson get up in the final strides to win in 1:52.3 over pocket-sitter Island Beach Boy (Adam Merner) and pacesetter Fern Hill General (Brodie MacPhee). Jamie Smith trains the winner for owners Red Oak Stables of Charlottetown.
The Grassroots divisions of the P.E.I. Colt Stakes were claimed by Brookdale Johnny (Paul Langille) in 1:54.1 for trainer Phil Sizer and Howmac Maximus (Damian MacLellan) in 1:54 flat from the Tammy Collings barn.
The Harness The Hope female drivers race sponsored by CP Construction Services had Stoney Curtis (Natasha Day) pointed forward at the start and score in 1:59.2 over Zaidans Luck (Ambyr Campbell) and Rockin Novel (Clare MacDonald). Deanna Clow trains the winning pacer for Barby Affleck of Cornwall.
