Hall of Fame harness racing driver Yannick Gingras reached another major milestone in his career, scoring his 9,000th career win with Steely Knife (Always B Miki) in the 9th race at The Red Mile Monday afternoon (July 29) in Lexington, KY.
It was befitting the Steely Knife is trained by none other than Ron Burke, for whom Gingras has driven a countless number of winners over the years.
Gingras, who will turn age 45 on Sunday (Aug. 4), hails from the province of Quebec, but has made the USA his home since 2001.
His 9,000th career win saw Gingras get away in 5th place with Steely Knife in the 9th race pace over a good track and then come first-over in the backstretch, eventually wearing down pacesetter Capytreach (Andy Miller) and winning by one and three-quarter lengths in 1:52.3.
It was the second win this year for race favorite Steely Knife ($2.88), who is owned by Burke Racing Stable, Knox Services, Phil Collura and J&T Silva ā Purnel & Libby.
