Topsham, Maine … Maine’s fairground circuit will hit its full stride during the month of August as the eyes of the Pine Tree State become focused on the 170th agricultural exhibition to be held at the venerable Topsham Fair.
As is customary at Topsham, harness racing will offer an exciting precursor to the actual fair itself, with a ten-race program scheduled to kick off the week on Sunday (August 4) beginning at 1:00 p.m. (EDT) The premier session will followed by a nine-race card drawn for Monday (August 5), set to commence with a 3:00 p.m. post time, and featuring twin dashes of Maine Sire Stakes races for three-year-old filly pacers, with each stakes split contested for purses in excess of $16,000 per.
Both Sunday and Monday’s cards will feature free admission with patrons also afforded the opportunity to win valuable free passes to the fair as well as to the additional harness racing cards to be held later in the week on Tuesday (3:00 post), Thursday (3:00 post), and Saturday (1:00 post).
“Harness racing is entrenched in the spirit and history of the agricultural fair experience in Maine and we are proud to continue to carry on that tradition at the Topsham Fair” said Topsham’s Director of Racing, Michelle Hardin. “The tradition dates back generations and brings many families and old friends back together for a few months of fun but more importantly, it supports and showcases one of Maine’s bedrock agricultural industries. We can’t wait for the show to begin on Sunday.”
All harness racing cards will be broadcast live on YouTube and online wagering opportunities will be available on the Hollywood Races platform atĀ hollywoodraces.com.
On track, Cruisin’ Infusions, one of Maine’s premier mobile cocktail operations, will provide beer and cocktail service in the trackside beer garden throughout the week while food trucks will be be on the grounds to provide top notch dining options.
The popular senior citizens discount day will be held on Tuesday (August 6)Ā Ā with patrons age 65 and over admitted to the fair and racing for only $5.00 per person. Tuesday also marks the first day of full fair activities featuring midway rides and games, livestock shows and pulling events, logging demonstrations, 4-H competition and demonstrations, baked goods competition and judging, and daily entertainment, as well as a harness racing card at 3:00 p.m.
