The third leg of the Prospect Series for two-year-old trotting fillies was held Friday (Aug. 2) night at Grand River Raceway.
A field of seven prospect fillies lined up in the second race and went for a purse of $8,000. At the word āgoā the battle for the front end was on between Sweet Swirl (David Boughton) and Hadley (Scott Coulter). Even though Hadley had drawn the rail, Sweet Swirl did enough to claim the early lead. Sweet Swirl set early fractions were set of 29.0 and 1:00.1.
Once the clock read, 1:30 at the three-quarter station Its Not My Fault (The Bank) was now challenging for the lead after sitting comfortably in fourth till this point. She cleared the competition with ease and won in 1:59.1. Her 29-second last quarter was more than enough to seal the deal.
With a 28.4 last quarter of her own, Hadley had real estate left to capture second place while Sweet Swirl fell to third.
ITS NOT MY FAULT REPLAY
Its Not My Fault has now won three straight in the Prospect Series. The 1:59.1 mile is good enough to be her new lifetime mark as well. Its My Fault is the lone horse under the care of Kim Baxter.
Colin Kelly teamed up the young trotter and picked up his second of three wins on the card. Kelly’s first win came in the first race with Louie The Great (Dancin Lou). The duo put together a solid wire-to-wire effort and the two-year-old gelding picked up his first career win.Ā Kelly would add his third win in the eighth race with Sportsense (Sportswriter). The five-year-old gelding has won back-to-back races after going winless for almost two years.
Racing will continue at Grand River Raceway on Wednesday, Aug. 7 atĀ 6:30 p.m. EDT.
