Grove City, OH – Sophomores head to Eldorado Scioto Downs to take on the final day of Ohio State Fair Stakes on Saturday (August 3). Harness racing pacing colts and fillies as well as trotting colts will highlight the card.
A total of seventeen pacing colts will comprise three divisions, each carrying a purse of $77,700. Fourteen trainers and nine stallions will be represented. Downbytheseaside will have seven offspring on the track.
A gelded son of Downbytheseaside, Outer Banks, is the 5-2 favorite in the first division. Outer Banks has three victories on the year with $41,328 in the bank. Earlier this spring he set a new lifetime mark in 1:50.3 at The Meadows. Ron Burke trains for Burke Racing Stable, R A S Racing, J&T Silva – Purnel & Libby, and Weaver Bruscemi.
Clever Cody is the 9-5 favorite in the second division. Dr. Ian Moore trains the son of The Panderosa. Clever Cody is undefeated in the Ohio Sires Stakes. With a lifetime mark in 1:50.1, he has bankrolled $497,582 lifetime for owner Clever Cody Stable.
Three-year-old filly pacers will make up two $72,000 divisions. Each of the fifteen trainers will send one starter to the track. Downbytheseaside will have four daughters behind the gate while Lather Up and Nob Hill High will each have three.
In the first division, the even-money favorite is Seaside Diva (Downbytheseaside). The filly has seven wins in eight starts as a sophomore. She has stayed perfect in the Ohio Sires Stakes under Burke’s conditioning. Seaside Diva has a lifetime mark in 1:50.4, set at Scioto Downs in early July. Owned by Burke Racing Stable, Weaver Bruscemi, Knox Services, and Let It Ride Stables, she has amassed $469,805 in lifetime earnings.
Wasted On You (Downbytheseaside) is the favorite in the second division at 8-5. The Virgil Morgan Jr trainee has won half of her six seasonal starts. The filly has secured two second place finishes in the Ohio Sires Stakes. She claims a lifetime mark of 1:51. and earnings of $67,750. Wasted On You is owned by Odds On Racing and Tim Graber.
One $142,000 division for sophomore colt trotters will take the stage. Eight trainers will send a field of ten behind the gate. Eight stallions will be represented with Creatine and What The Hill each having two sons in the stakes.
Leaving from the fourth post position, Tennessee Tom (Long Tom) is the 8-5 favorite. The gelding has won four of six this season, including two starts in the Ohio Sires Stakes. Tennessee Tom is trained by Burke and carries a lifetime mark of 1:53. The sophomore has earned $596,620 for owners Burke Racing Stable, Weaver Bruscemi, Hatfield Stables, and Knox Services.
Ohio State Fair Stakes action closes on Saturday. Beginning at 5:00 PM, Scioto Downs will race three divisions that were postponed due to inclement weather on Thursday (Aug. 1). First race post of the regularly scheduled card is 5:45 PM.
