Outlaw Sharktastic (Smart Shark) refused to be caught in three straight Fillies and Mares Preferreds as she drew away to capture the Friday harness racing feature at Century Downs on Friday (Aug. 9).

The mare commanded the tempo, setting :28.1, :58, and 1:25.4 panels from the lead. If Only Id Known (Phil Giesbrecht), who caught the leader on the line in their last race together, came at her from third going down the backstretch. The challenger sustained her bid around the final turn, but Outlaw Sharktastic kicked clear by two-and-a-quarter lengths for the 1:54.2 victory. If Only Id Known came home second with Daisy Corvette (Logan Gillis) completing the ticket.

OUTLAW SHARKTASTIC REPLAY

Outlaw Sharktastic, who was beaten by a head in her previous two starts, is now four-for-15 on the year. Nathan Sobey trains and drives the mare, whom he co-owns with Glenda Winkleman of Edmonton and Glenn Pinel of Calgary. The six-year-old has compiled career totals of 15 wins, 101 starts, and $173,461 in earnings.

Brandon Campbell completed a training and driving triple on the day, steering his horses Skys Little Spunk (Armbro Baylor, 1:54.4),  Ima Fist Fight (Betterthancheddar, 1:56.4), and Yenoh Who (Domitian Hanover, 1:56.1) to victory.

Century Downs’s next card will be the Midsummer Classic, which features the $122,200 Gord and Illa Rumpel Memorial and Ralph Klein Memorial. First post is set for 12:45 p.m. EDT.
