Welcome into our Speed in the breed article. A look into the successful families represented at the trials and workouts.
If you look in the sales catalogue or those that find fame out on the track in the feature races youāre likely to find that many of the champions of today come from great families of the past. Here we touch on that habit of success – how the great families continue to leave the very best.
This week we delve into the limited trials and workouts to take place at Oamaru and Cambridge on Tuesday, and while the numbers might be limited thereās no shortage of great bloodlines to take in.
Tarragindi (Majestic SonĀ – Kennyās Dream) Phil Williamson prepares the full field in the first out of Oamaru on Tuesday. Among those to line up is this son of Majestic Son. Ā Dam Kennyās Dream impressed on the track, winning 8 races and is a daughter of the class act One Under Kenny, her placings including a 2ndĀ in the Great Northern Breeders Stakes of 2003 when being beaten by Kayla Nova.
As a mother One Under Kenny has left King Kenny (9 wins) Brads Kenny (5 wins) Kennyās Dream (8 wins) and One Majic Kenny, winner of 13.
This is a family of real quality and depth.

Sky Moo (Sky Major – Quadrifoglio) Ā Due to go around in the 2ndĀ heat of the day, this Graeme Anderson and Mike Love trained runner is certainly one to watch in times to come. By a sire who is starting to gain a little more traction in terms of results in Sky Major, Sky Moo is out of Quadrifolgio, a mare who won 7 times during a career spanning some 58 races. Her progeny includes the winners Cavallo VolanteĀ (Jeremeās Jet)Ā and Reattore (Auckland Reactor)
Sky Moo had a grounding at workouts late last year and is a must-follow for students of formlines going forward.
The Humble One (Father Patrick – Donegal Bettorgretch) Father Patrick is the first big tick when looking into this Hoffman trained runner – the second positive mark is the dam line and its history of producing the goods. Donegal Bettorgretch took out the Gr1 3YO Ruby Jewels title in 2016, defeating Wilmaās Mate and Conon Bridge when driven by Dexter Dunn, it was the most celebrated of her 7 victories. Her progeny includes the smart KrackalingĀ (What The Hill)Ā who has proven competitive among Group racing company in recent times.
Mikko Koivu (Majestic Son – Tehoro Diva) An interesting Latimer trained 4yr-old. Mikko Koivu is out of a successful trotting exponent in Tehoro Diva, a mare who consistently delivered over 4 seasons of racing, her record standing at 6 wins and 9 minor placings from the 47 starts. As a mother Tehoro Diva delivered first-up, leaving the 5-time winner in Tehoro Dazzle as her first foal.
The wider family includes notable performers like The Tin Man (9 wins) and Aile Rouge (8 wins) It’s a well-known trotting breed so it’s worth jotting this name down for times ahead.
