CHARLOTTETOWN, PE – Oceanview Nikki (EL Rocket) has been unblemished so far in her career and will put that to the test in Atlantic Sires Stakes action Tuesday evening (Aug. 13) at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park during Old Home Week harness racing.
The Tuesday program has 13-dashes starting at 6:00 P.M. featuring the Atlantic Sires Stakes for two and three-year-old trotters.
Oceanview Nikki is favoured in the first Atlantic Sires Stakes Two-year-old trot division from post 3 in race 3 for a $12,720 pot for trainer-driver Mike McGuigan and owners Josh MacDonald and Blue Diamond Racing. The filly has been unbeaten in three lifetime starts.
The other $12,720 Atlantic Sires Stakes two-year-old trot division is in race 7 with trainer-driver McGuigan favoured to win again, this time with Supreme Rockette (EL Rocket) for owner Jamie Whalen of Avondale. The filly has two wins and a second in her career, with her lone loss a second-place finish to Oceanview Nikki at Red Shores Summerside.
In Atlantic Sires Stakes three-year-old trot action, race 9 is a $12,580 split with a seven-horse field. Getting Tipsy is the top selection for trainer-driver McGuigan and owner Whalen. The EL Rocket filly is looking for her first notch in the win column from post 1.
The final Atlantic Sires Stakes division is in race 11 for a $12,580 pot for sophomore trotters.
Oceanview Daisy is the morning line favourite with rail control for driver Myles Heffernan Sr., trainer Myles Heffernan Jr., and owners Jackie Heffernan and Barry MacLeod. The filly is unbeaten in three tries this season while recording new sophomore trotting filly track records at Northside Downs (2:00) and Truro Raceway (1:59.1).
The Gold Cup & Saucer Ambassadors will arrive at 7:00 pm to select their horses and the official post positions for the 65th running of the Gold Cup & Saucer.
