Sunshine Lou (Sunshine Beach) went all the way to win the Winners-Over at Inverness Raceway on Wednesday (Aug. 21) and lowered his seasonal harness racing mark.
Campbell MacIsaac fired the gelding out from the rail, and Sunshine Lou flew to a four-length lead at the quarter in :29.1. The first-over Windemere Best Man (John MacDonald) could do little more than loom as Sunshine Lou led through :59.1 and 1:28.3 middle panels and carried a three-length lead into the stretch.
Three horses chased from behind him, but Sunshine Lou marched home to a 1:57.4 victory by a length-and-three-quarters.
Yacht Seelster (Zach Mullins) closed past three horses in the stretch for third. Rotten Ronnie (Redmond Doucet) won the show photo over Saulsbrook Feisty (Keith Legge).
SUNSHINE LOU REPLAY
Sunshine Lou is now four-for-14 on the season for trainer Ray Mackinnon, who co-owns the gelding with Leah Mackinnon. The eight-year-old has earned $68,123 and has won 23 times in 118 appearances.
The next card of racing at Inverness Raceway is set for Wednesday, Aug. 28, the trackās final midweek card of the season. It will switch to Sundays in September and October.
