Zapaca (Yankee Glide) and harness racing driver Steeven Genois captured the $8,500 featured Open Trot at Vernon Downs on Saturday (August 24).
Wallet was first the quarter in :26.2.Ā He slowed things down with a :30.4 second quarter and led to the half in :57.1.Ā Woodside Gabe (Leon Bailey) came flying down the backstretch and took over the lead and led to three-quarters in 1:25.2 but then he went on break.
As they reached the stretch Zapaca ($10.60) took command and cruised home to win in 1:55.3.Ā Discus Hanover (Ron Harp) came on late to finish second.Ā Sir Jesse (Jimmy Whittemore) was third best.
Zapaca is a 7-year-old gelding owned by Devan Flood and trained by Gary Gibson.Ā It was his sixth win this season.Ā He now owns 17 career victories.

Leon Bailey and Chuck Connor Jr. had driving triples.Ā Claude Huckabone Jr. had a driving-training double.
Maximum Ideal (Chuck Connor Jr.) came flying late to capture the George Tackley Memorial Race in 1:53.4.Ā The winnerās circle was packed with family and friends showing their love for the Late George Tackley.
