Tact McLeod (Sweet Lou) is back at Mark Jones Burnham harness racing stable after the early part of his preparation was done by his Winton trainer Trevor Proctor.

As an R71 horse there are more opportunities for the five year old in Canterbury so Proctor took the gelding north last week.

Proctor stated at the end of Tact McLeod’s last campaign that he was considering a start in November’s IRT New Zealand Trotting Cup and that may still be on the cards.

“I think he’s going to the trials on Wednesday and we’ll see how we go,” Proctor said.

Nominations for the Cup close on Thursday.

“I said to Mark that I felt he’s improved. In the past when you worked him on his own you had to ask him to do it. Whereas now you’re just holding on and he’s just cruising. His mental stuff has got a lot better. Mark weighed him after his last win and he was 527 kgs and I got him to weigh him when he arrived and he was 536. So he’s got a wee bit to lose.”

From fifteen starts Tact McLeod has won five races and has been placed a further five times.

Although he’s won at Ascot Park he’s shown a liking to race on the bigger tracks.
