Harness racing driver James MacDonald claimed the 2024 Charity Driver’s Challenge title at Clinton Raceway as the Huron County oval wrapped up its season on a gorgeous Sunday afternoon (Sept. 1) in rural Ontario.

Finishing in the top three of all but one of eight races in the 44th annual challenge, secured the win for MacDonald heading into the seventh race. MacDonald had last won the challenge in 2014.

Eight of the country’s best drivers competed and generously donated their driving fees for the day to the Royal Canadian Legion. Three branches were on hand hosting the trackside fundraiser and a total of over $10,000 was raised to be split between them.

Top trainer Pat Bissett and top driver Todd Ratchford were recognized for their outstanding seasons on track following the final race.

The largest crowd of the season was on hand to close out the summer meet of 15 weeks and a record handle of $113,000 was put through the mutual windows.

Three Ontario Sires Stakes divisions of grassroots filly pacers were contested during the final three races of the 11-race card.

The end of the season also signifies the end of an era at Clinton Raceway as the current grandstand is slated for demolition early next week.

The 2025 season will be ushered in with a modern, fully accessible facility for all to enjoy.
