Bozak and Five Star Lou, both sons of Dancin Lou, won their first harness racing starts in the Prospect Series leg 4B for two-year-old pacing colts and geldings on Wednesday (Sep. 4) at Grand River Raceway.
Bozak took the lead early and front-stepped to victory for Brett MacDonald in the first split. He was aided by a break from the pocket-sitter on the backstretch but came under siege from Leave It To Lucan (Jason Ryan) and Babbling Billy (Sam Fillion) down the stretch. Three closers surged in the final eighth of a mile and produced a three-across finish, but Bozak held on by a neck to win in 1:56. Leave It To Lucan closed best, beating out Babbling Billy for place.
BOZAK REPLAY
The winner has now won back-to-back races after starting his career with no top-three finishes in six outings. Scott McEneny trains the gelding for Brenda and Mark Lane of Roseneath and Anthony Lane of Peterborough.
Five Star Lou also made it two straight as he hung on to take the second split. Travis Henry sent him first-over as the field came onto the backstretch, and the colt inherited the lead from the breaking leader on the final turn. Pocket-sitter Up Front Bb (Louis-Philippe Roy) fired from the pylons, but he came up a head short as Five Star Lou completed the victory in 1:55.1.
FIVE STAR LOU REPLAY
Five Star Lou did not earn a cheque in his first three starts at Mohawk Park before his first victory on Aug. 27 for trainer Shawn Steacy. The $30,000 London Classic sale has now earned $8,750 for Landmark 17 Racing Stable, Stephen Downey, Dan Mogridge, and Esa Lahtinen.
The next card at Grand River Raceway on Friday, Sep. 6 will feature four $95,000 Ontario Sires Stakes Gold divisions ā two for each sex of two-year-old trotters. First post is set for 6:30 p.m. EDT.
