Southland based owner Brendan Fahy along with Nathan Williamson Racing and the Dreams Are Free Syndicate, which races smart colt Dreams Are Free (Captaintreacherous), have together purchased a slot in the newly created $500,000 harness racing Slot race The Velocity.

The race is for three year old pacers and will be run at Addington on Show Day.

“If you don’t have a slot there’s a chance you won’t get selected, so we’re guaranteeing ourselves a start. The boys in the syndicate are quite excited. They didn’t quite understand it. I put my name down to send all the stuff to. The next thing to come out (document with regulations and rules) is 26 pages!! I’d just as soon have slipped under the radar (laughter),” Fahy said.

It’s going to be an exciting few months for Fahy. Dreams Are Free is about three weeks away from heading to the workouts and Brendan is also heading to America, joining the latest tour of  Harnesslink’s John Curtin to the States. The trip will include attending the Breeders Crown.

“We’re going on the 15th October. We’re just staying in the Meadowlands and coming back on the 30th.”

Fahy has been racing horses for thirty nine years. His first winner was Decorum at Forbury Park in January 1985 trained by Hamish Hunter and driven by Earl Swain.

He tasted Group One success with Stands To Reason in the 1990 Nevele R Stud Sires Stakes Final at Alexandra Park.

In all he’s owned or had a share in 135 winners in this country. His most successful horses to date based on the number of wins have been Franco Sinatra (8) Rakanra (7) Rakarebel (6), Rakanotta (6) and Stands To Reason (6). Eighty seven of his winners have carried the prefix Rak.

His most recent qualifier Carrera Bandido (Captaintreacherous) qualified for the Dalgetys at Rangiora on Wednesday.

“Blair said to Cran that he thought he would be a nice horse. That was his first time off the place.”

Meanwhile the confirmed slot holders for The Velocity are Rick/Nick Syndicate, Dennis and Mark Dunford, Studholme Bloodstock Ltd, Montana Park, Diane Reilly, Dreams Are Free Syndicate, Summitt Bloodstock, Barrett Homes, Arna Donnelly and Entain.

Slot owners for The Ascent for three year old trotters were also confirmed: Purdon Racing, Peter and Janet Argus, The Tyre General Giti, Small Car World Ltd, Kiwi Syndicate, Hope Racing Stables, Bond Racing, Breckon Racing/Richard Cole, Tumby Park Trust and Pukekohe Panther.
